Football: Coach Hürzeler extends long-term contract in England

The German coaching talent Fabian Hürzeler has extended his contract in England for the long term and will not be moving to the Bundesliga for the time being. The 33-year-old has signed with his club Brighton & Hove Albion until the summer of 2029, the club announced. This also eliminates speculation that Hürzeler could take over at Bayer Leverkusen in the summer as a possible successor to Kasper Hjulmand.

“I really enjoy working for this club and really enjoy living in this city. I’m really happy about the contract extension. This long-term commitment to the club is an honor and only strengthens my desire to successfully implement our shared vision,” said Hürzeler, who moved to England from FC St. Pauli in 2024.

President raves about Hürzeler

In the current season, Brighton is in eighth place in the table, leaving well-known clubs such as Chelsea FC, Newcastle United, West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur behind with three match days before the end of the season.

President Tony Bloom said of Hürzeler: “Since his appointment, Fabian has continued the club’s positive development in recent seasons with consistently good performances on the pitch and developed a clear playing philosophy.” Hürzeler emphasized that he was proud of what had been achieved. “I’m even more excited about what lies ahead of us.”
