Florentino Pérez: “I’m not going to resign, I’m going to run for office”

The president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, appeared before the media this Tuesday to call for elections in which he will stand to continue leading the 15-time European champion, ruling out that he has thought about resigning.

“I regret to tell you, from what I am told out there, that I am not going to resign but that I have asked the Electoral Board to start the electoral process for the elections to the Board of Directors, to which this current Board of Directors is going to present itself,” Pérez indicated at a press conference at the club’s Sports City.

The businessman, who has made it clear that he has “perfect health”, has stressed that he has been working since 2000 “so that the owners of the club were the members, unlike what happens in other clubs.”

“I have made that decision because an absurd situation has been created caused by campaigns to generate a current of opinion contrary to the interests of Real Madrid and especially against me. It is true that they take advantage of the fact that we have had results that have not been the best, but this is something we accept because in sport you do not always win,” he stressed, complaining that many “take advantage of the situation” to attack him “personally.”
