The German automotive sector is losing as many as 225,000 jobs

VDA previously predicted that between 2019 and 2035, 190,000 jobs will be lost in the automotive sector.

“Based on current calculations, we now unfortunately have to assume that 225,000 jobs will be lost by 2035,” VDA president Hildegard Müller told the RND media group. She also emphasized that between 2019 and 2025, more approximately 100,000 jobs were extinguished.

Suppliers are expected to be particularly hard hit as the transition from vehicles with internal combustion engines to electric mobility is leading to significant job losses in the supplier sector, Müller said.

The head of the association also blamed, in her words, the “serious and permanent competitiveness crisis” in Germany and Europe for the worsening outlook.

“Conditions are getting noticeably worse,” Müller warned, citing high taxes and fees, expensive energy, high labor costs and excessive bureaucracy among the difficulties facing the auto industry.
