Lebanon’s president says he will do “the impossible” to end Israel’s attacks

The president of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, stated this Monday that he will do “the impossible” to definitively put an end to the attacks perpetrated by Israel against the territory despite the fact that the ceasefire agreed with the Shiite militia party Hezbollah remains in force.

“It is my duty, based on my position and my responsibility, to do the impossible and at the lowest possible cost to stop the war in Lebanon and against its people,” clarified the president, who has asserted that Lebanese children are “the wealth of the nation”, while at the same time claiming the importance of future generations.

This has been expressed in the face of the real impossibility of putting an end to the attacks between the parties despite the truce being declared in April. “The framework that Lebanon has established to carry out this type of negotiations makes the withdrawal of Israeli troops, the ceasefire, the deployment of the Army on the border and the return of the displaced people essential,” he stated.

Furthermore, he has emphasized that among the demands would also be to obtain financial aid given the serious damage suffered during the entire offensive, according to a statement from the Presidency. “My duty is to do the impossible,” he stressed.

Since March 2, Israel’s attacks in Lebanon have killed nearly 3,000 people and injured more than 9,000. These figures, which include 108 dead health workers, have continued to increase despite the ceasefire, with daily attacks by Israeli forces.
