Pakistan sent thousands of its troops and 16 fighter jets and UAVs to Saudi Arabia

As part of a bilateral defense pact, Pakistan has deployed about 8,000 troops, a squadron of about 16 JF-17 fighter jets (a joint China-Pakistan production), two squadrons of drones and a Chinese HQ-9 air defense system, Reuters reported, citing three security officials and two government sources.

The fighters were deployed in early April. All weapons are maintained by Pakistani personnel and financed by Saudi Arabia.

The deployment is a capable force intended to support Saudi Arabia in the event of another attack on the kingdom. Reuters notes that the agreement signed last year provides for the possibility of stationing up to 80,000 Pakistani troops in Saudi Arabia.
