Three people were murdered last night (Monday) in a shooting incident that took place at the Islamic Center in San Diego, California. According to the reports, the shooters, two young men aged 17 and 19 – ended their lives. The background is still unclear, but the motive being investigated is a hate crime. Trump referred to the incident: “a terrible situation”.

The center where the shooting took place is in the Claremont neighborhood, where the largest mosque in the district is located. In the documents from the scene, children are seen being evacuated walking in a chain and surrounded by police. One of the murdered is a security guard who worked there.

The mayor of San Diego, Todd Gloria, issued a statement saying that he is aware of the incident, and that the emergency teams are working on the scene: “Please avoid coming to the scene and follow the instructions issued by the authorities.”

Near the center is the “Kabad” Jewish school, to which many members of the Jewish community send their children. Following this, all the employees of the Jewish institutions in San Diego, the synagogues and the schools – were instructed to enter an immediate quarantine which was lifted after about an hour.

An employee of the Jewish Federation told N12: “We immediately received messages that there was active shooting and we had to lock the windows and doors and hide under the tables. It took a few tense minutes to realize that it was not in the building, and we moved to shut ourselves off in the lobby until we learned that the event was over.”
