Electric city car, “small SUV”… Ford announces the launch of seven new vehicles in Europe

The car manufacturer Ford will launch seven new models in Europe, including two intended for businesses and five cars for individuals, the group announced this Monday in a press release.

“By the end of 2029, Ford will launch five entirely new cars, made in Europe for Europe”, including an electric city car and a “small SUV”, also electric, said the American manufacturer.

For professionals, two variations of existing models will be released. The first is a pick-up suitable for emergency services, forestry services, mining and the army.

“European governments and companies serving the defense industry are increasingly seeking off-the-shelf vehicles that provide the extreme capabilities required by the armed forces,” said Ford Europe President Jim Baumbick, quoted in the press release.

The other vehicle, conversely, is the electric version of a van intended for use in dense urban areas.

“We can accelerate the reduction of emissions today thanks to hybrid technologies which allow customers to drive in electric mode as soon as they can”, further underlined the boss of Ford Europe.

New offensive

Germany is at the heart of the 4,000 job cuts in Europe planned by Ford, the embodiment of the setbacks in the global automobile industry between rising costs, the electric shift and Chinese competition.

Ford has scaled back in recent years in Europe, a very competitive market, notably with the offensive of Chinese manufacturers in the electric sector.

The American manufacturer also entered into a partnership with the French Renault Group in December to develop two Ford brand electric cars by early 2028 on a Renault platform in the north of France, displaying “a new ambitious product offensive from Ford in Europe”, after having significantly reduced staff and production capacities there in recent years.
