Indian billionaire Gautam Adani’s Adani Enterprises holding, which owns, among other things, the port of Haifa, will pay the US government $275 million as part of a settlement agreement to resolve violations of the sanctions regime against Iran.
According to the US Treasury Department, Adani purchased liquefied gas of Iranian origin from a trader in Dubai. “The company should have paid attention to markers indicating the Iranian origin of the gas,” the document says. According to the department, from November 2023 to June 2025, the company received payments in the amount of $192 million for these purchases through American financial institutions.
Recall that in early 2026, Adani Enterprises reported that it had received an inquiry regarding transactions related to Iran. The report follows The Wall Street Journal’s coverage of an investigation by federal authorities into imports of liquefied natural gas from Iran through the Indian port of Mundra.
