YouTube launches its deepfake detection tool for all content creators over 18 years of age

YouTube has expanded the launch of its deepfake detection tool for all content creators of the platform over 18 years of age, in order to help a greater number of people protect their identity on the platform.

The company launched this tool in October of last year as a way to Help content creators combat deepfakes generated with artificial intelligence (AI) that they use their image and their voice in videos for which they have not given consent.

Thus, it is a function that allows monitor how a content creator’s image appears, created or modified with AI, to help protect your identity, especially in those videos manipulated to reflect a vision that he does not share.

This tool was initially released in beta for a number of select content creators from the YouTube Partner Program and now it has expanded its launch for all content creators who monetize their videos on YouTube, over 18 years old.

This was shared by the streaming content platform in a statement on its support page, where it clarified that, as AI-generated content continues to evolve, they are expanding identity detection to create an environment where you can upload videos while maintaining control of your image.

In this way, the detection of ‘deepfakes’ will begin to be offered to all creators during the next weekswho may request the removal of unauthorized content with their image from the platform. “With this expansion, we make it clear that, Whether creators have been uploading videos to YouTube for a decade or are just starting out, they’ll have access to the same level of protection“, YouTube spokesperson Jack Malon clarified in a statement collected by Engadget.

It should be noted that YouTube also expanded this tool for use by politicians and journalists in March of this year, so they can also check if their image is being used in videos without permission.

However, in order to use this deepfake detection tool, users must register for the service from YouTube Studio and grant permissions to the platform to use the tool, in addition to complete a unique verification process. Once image detection is set up, YouTube will start recording the content in search for videos with similar images in the background.
