Mr. Trump announced the postponement of the plan to attack Iran

President Trump said he planned to attack Iran on May 19 but postponed it due to requests from Gulf countries.

In a post on the social network Truth Social on May 18, US President Donald Trump said he “will postpone the planned military attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran, which was scheduled for tomorrow (May 19)”.

According to the President, he received this proposal from the leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the context of “serious negotiations taking place”.

“Gulf allies are confident that an agreement will be passed, including the provision that Iran will not be allowed to possess nuclear weapons,” the President said, adding that he had informed the US military “not to attack Iran as planned.”

However, he said he had “instructed them to be ready to deploy a large-scale, all-out attack against Iran as soon as the order is given, in case a reasonable agreement cannot be reached”.

After returning from his visit to China, Mr. Trump continuously issued a series of increasingly drastic warnings against Iran. On May 17, he said that “time is running out” and Iran “will have nothing left” if a peace deal cannot be agreed.

News agency Fars Iran later said Washington had proposed a five-point list of conditions, including requiring Iran to retain only one nuclear facility and transfer its stockpile of highly enriched uranium to the US.

According to this news agency, the proposal from Iran emphasizes that Tehran will continue to manage the strategic Strait of Hormuz, an important energy shipping route that has been largely blocked since the conflict broke out in late February.

On May 18, the Gulf Strait Administration (PGSA), the new agency established by Iran to manage the Strait of Hormuz, said it would provide “real-time updates” on social network X about all activities and developments in this waterway.

President Trump meanwhile affirmed that Iran must open the Strait of Hormuz as part of the peace agreement.
