La Jornada: Aeroméxico plans to resume trips to Caracas in October

Aeroméxico plans to resume operations to Caracas, Venezuela, in October, after it stopped offering that route in June 2016, the company reported in a statement.

He indicated that the destination will connect Mexico City with the Simón Bolívar International Airport of Maiquetía, aboard Boeing 737 MAX equipment, one of the most modern and efficient aircraft in its fleet.

The airline detailed that the start of operations is scheduled for October 2026 and subject to government approval.

“The Mexico City-Caracas route is in the process of evaluation and approval by the corresponding authorities, so the final details of itineraries and availability will be published once the necessary authorizations have been obtained,” the statement mentions.

Giancarlo Mulinelli, senior vice president of global sales at the aforementioned company, commented that they are exploring opportunities to strengthen their international network.

“The intention to resume the Caracas route will represent a very important step to expand Mexico’s connectivity network with South America, meeting market demand and reaffirming the commitment to offer more and better travel options,” he commented.

“The return to Venezuela will allow us to strengthen commercial, tourist and cultural ties between both countries, offering customers a direct and efficient option to travel between these two important capitals,” highlighted the company headed by Andrés Conesa Labastida.

With the reincorporation of the route to Venezuela, the airline will add a total of 10 routes in South America, which will complement the current offer to Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil and Argentina.

Aeroméxico’s fleet will total 171 devices by the end of 2026, which represents an increase of 37 percent compared to 2019.

“This strengthening has allowed us to expand the operation in strategic markets and continue to increase the company’s operational efficiency,” the company said on April 28 within the framework of the Tianguis Turístico.

In 2026, the airline opened routes from Mexico City to Tegucigalpa, Quito and Barcelona, ​​as well as Monterrey-Paris.
