Inter at a reduced pace, San Siro celebrating the Champions League draw

In a San Siro dressed to the nines, Inter drew 1-1 against already relegated Verona. Minimal effort for the Chivu boys who have fun in front of their audience. It inevitably started with little technical-tactical content: Bowie responded to Edmundsson’s own goal at the start of the second half in added time. Now the Scudetto party can begin for the new Italian champions who, once they have lifted the trophy, will parade by bus through the streets of Milan until late in the evening.

Low pace and scoreless first half at San Siro, also because Inter’s game lacks some automaticity, due to the many lineup changes. In the 24th minute the Nerazzurri had their first big chance of the match when Mkhitaryan’s long-range shot went just wide. The Armenian is still dangerous in the 42nd minute, this time in the penalty area: Montipò saves the opponent’s shot and then Lautaro wastes it, kicking out from a good position. There were also some offensive flashes from Verona who, in the 22nd minute, came close to taking the lead with Lovric’s header, saved on the counter-time by Sommer.

In the second half, Inter returned to the field with greater determination and, not surprisingly, immediately found the 1-0 lead. In the 47th minute, from a corner, Bonny’s burst into the area sends Edmundsson into crisis, author of an awkward own goal. The hosts came close to making it 2-0 on several occasions, but Lautaro was not very cool in front of goal. In the 51st minute the Nerazzurri captain kicked a cross towards the goal, finding the prompt response with Montipò’s foot; in the 57th minute, however, the Argentine ate the goal a stone’s throw from the goal, kicking a sure shot at the opposing goalkeeper.

In the final there was room for the debut of Canterano Mosconi, who came close to scoring in the 83rd minute with a left-footed shot that went just wide of the post. In full injury time, Verona found the equalizer, thanks to Bowie, one of the few happy notes of Verona’s season: the Verona striker punished the erroneous defensive reading of a distracted Nerazzurri defense. Inter thus ends their home season with a draw and rising to 86 points in the standings. Let the party begin now.
