Pohjanpalo goal, was it offside? Aquilani fury and protests in Palermo-Catanzaro

Protests and controversies in Palermo-Catanzaro. Today, Wednesday 20 Maythe Rosanero hosted the Giallorossi in the second leg of the Serie B playoffs, in a match immediately marked by an refereeing episode. After the 3-0 of the first leg, Pippo Inzaghi’s team started the comeback already in the opening minutes thanks to the goal in Pohjanpaloover which Aquilani’s men protested for a offside.

It all happens in the 3rd minute. A cross from Palumbo from the midfield from a free kick causes panic in the Calabrian defence, which clears the ball short. Pohjanpalo pounces on the rebound, hitting a header from the center of the area and finding the Rosanero’s immediate advantage, amid protests from Catanzaro.

The Calabrians in fact ask for an offside by a Palermo player, who jumps into the area and disturbs the intervention of the Giallorossi goalkeeper. The VAR calls the referee Marcenaro, who waits a few seconds but then validates the goal, thus judging the rosanero’s offside as irrelevant in the development of the goal.
