Aston Villa wins the Europa League. And Emery performs yet another magic

Aston Villa won the Europa League by beating the Friborg 3-0 in the final in Istanbul. For the Villans, goals from Tielemans in the 40th minute, Buendia in the 47th minute and Rogers in the 57th minute were decisive. It was a match without history tonight which saw Aston Villa – with its second European trophy in its history, after the 1982 European Cup – dominate the match without major worries and hand the trophy to the coachUnai Emery, fifth personal success in this competition with three different clubs (three times Sevilla and once Villareal). In the stands to celebrate with the English was the Prince of Wales, Williams, a great fan of the Birmingham club.

The match report

After three minutes, Rogers finishes from distance but Atubolu is ready and dives. In the 10th minute Rogers tries again from the edge with a nice right-footed shot that goes just to the left of the goalkeeper. The Germans put their heads forward and in the 17th minute, following a free kick, Hofler shoots left-footed from a good position but the ball goes wide.

The match broke the deadlock in the 41st minute in favor of the Villans. Rogers receives the ball on the left and dishes a ball to the center which he pounces on Tielemans, who makes a great impact with a right-footed volley that passes Atubolu for 1-0. The British team persisted and at the end of injury time they doubled their lead. Buendia he takes the ball on the right edge of the area and draws a wonderful parable with the left foot which slips under the far corner. We go to half-time at 2-0.

The Birmingham team’s dominance continues in the second half and in the 13th minute the hat-trick arrives. Buendia works a nice ball on the left and puts a low shot at the near post which he lands on Rogers, who scores a goal like a true penalty area robber.
On the half hour Buendia graced Atubolu from two steps at the end of an excellent first move, finished off by an assist to Tielemans’ kiss for his teammate. The rest of the match is pure academics and the result will never change again.

At the final whistle, the English can celebrate together with their fans the conquest of the first Europa League in their history, 44 years after the historic European Cup won against Bayern Munich. For Emery there are now five triumphs out of six finals played in this event.
