Following the Iranian threat: the Emirates are taking off their gloves in front of the Gulf countries

“The confusion of roles during the current Iranian aggression is puzzling,” Gargash wrote in a tweet that caused widespread echoes. “This trend is spreading to the countries surrounding the Arab Gulf, where the role of the victim has suddenly combined with the role of the mediator, and vice versa. While the United Arab Emirates expected unequivocal condemnation and a united front from its neighbors to the Cooperation Council of the Gulf States, it seems that some of them prefer to walk between the cracks and keep diplomatic channels open with Iran.

“At this most dangerous stage in the modern history of the Gulf, and against the background of this treacherous aggression, the gray position is more dangerous than no position at all,” Gargash concluded his words quoted by “Gulf News”. The extraordinary statement reveals the internal divisions in the Arab world, and illustrates the growing pressure in Abu Dhabi to create a tough and uncompromising regional coalition that will curb the hegemonic ambitions of the Islamic Republic.
