The neighbor warned about expensive electricity – This is the situation in Finland

In Sweden, the price of electricity will increase next summer due to exceptionally dry weather and maintenance periods for nuclear power plants. Is the same price trend ahead in Finland? No, says Helen’s portfolio manager Juho Kinni in the company’s announcement.

According to him, this is due to the fact that electricity production in Finland is not as dependent on hydropower as in Sweden, even in the summer. In addition, electricity production is supported by both nuclear power and rapidly growing wind power.

“Nuclear power provides a stable basis for electricity production in Finland even in the summer. The significant growth of wind power in recent years, on the other hand, increases supply when wind conditions are good.”

During the spring, the Finnish electricity market has also seen a new direction of development, when electricity has been brought here from time to time from the Baltic States. This is based on the new solar power capacity built in the area.

“Baltic imports and the versatility of domestic production are now concretely visible in Finland. They strengthen the electricity sufficiency of the entire region during the summer. Individual factors can have a short-term effect, but as a whole the market situation in Finland is currently balanced.”

The price outlook for electricity is therefore stable in Finland next summer, Kinni estimates.
