A stimulus from the Trump administration for quant companies – shares on a sharp rise

President Donald Trump’s the administration grants two billion dollars in grants to nine companies developing quantum computing and takes ownership stakes in them at the same time.

With the funding, the administration is trying to speed up the quantum industry, which is still in the development stage in the United States.

With the help of quantum computers, it is believed that it will be possible to solve such computational problems that current computers are not capable of. However, quantum computers are currently still in the development phase.

Shares of companies developing quantum computers rose rapidly on Wall Street after the news. The computer company receiving the largest grant IBM:n the stock rose more than seven percent and Discard Computingin share as much as 25 percent.

The Ministry of Commerce has agreed to give one billion dollars of the funding package to the information technology company IBM, which is one of the largest companies developing quantum computers.

IBM said it will invest a billion dollars of its own money alongside the grant to establish, according to the company, the country’s first specialized quantum chip manufacturing facility. The company will establish a new business unit focused on this activity, which will receive the board’s investment.

A chip maker GlobalFoundries receives $375 million in funding and gives the board about one percent ownership in the company. It is also establishing a new business unit focused on quantum computing.

The rest of the companies are expected to receive $100 million, excluding the startup Diraqiawhich is set to receive $38 million.

Among those receiving funding are several companies developing various quantum technologies, including listed ones D-Wave QuantumRigetti Computing ja Infleqtion.

Funding for quantum contracts comes from the Chips and Science Act of 2022, which includes funds for earlier-stage technology projects.

According to the financial newspaper Wall Street Journal, the new funding comes at the same time as the administration is preparing a presidential decree focusing on the industry.
