The referee died in a football match in Kärkölä

Referee had an illness and died in a football match in Kärkölä on Thursday.

The Häme Police Department confirms that the police visited the scene. The case is being investigated as a cause of death investigation.

According to the editorial information, the men’s Vitones match between Järvelä Jäppärä and Hausjärvi Pallojuniori had just started when the referee came to the field.

Vitonen is the seventh highest league level in Finland.

Those present immediately began to help the referee, who was soon taken to the hospital by ambulance. Despite quick action, it was not possible to save him.

The head referee of the Swedish Football Association Johan Holmqvist says the union is deeply shocked by what happened.

“Our thoughts are with the referee’s family and friends,” says Holmqvist.

“In the men’s Jäppärä–HausPa football match today, an illness occurred, which caused the game to be stopped. Rescue personnel were called to the scene,” the club announced.
