Sinner, double goal in Paris: “I want Roland Garros and my pension”

Sinner arrives in Paris on the heels of 5 consecutive triumphs in as many tournaments. The latest arrived last Sunday in Rome, with success in the Italian Internationals. “Afterwards I went to my parents for a couple of days, then I arrived in Paris: I’m trying to recover energy to be ready for the first match. It was an intense and positive period, I’m lucky to be in this position. Better to win and feel a little tired than to lose a couple of matches and feel good”, says the South Tyrolean answering questions about the very busy calendar of the last 2 months. “Playing in Italy was an additional motivation. Now, with the current calendar, if you miss a tournament you don’t stay out for a week but two and that’s a long period. If you skip Rome, you arrive at Roland Garros after 3 weeks of stopping. You have to get here with a good number of matches behind you,” he explains.

“I try to train in a balanced way, I try to understand when you can push and when it’s not the case. The enthusiasm you feel here helps you recover energy. It’s a special tournament, last year I came very close to winning. “I sometimes think back to what happened, but I have very positive feelings,” he says, recalling the defeat in the fifth set, after 3 unexploited match points, against Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard has been out for weeks due to injury. Sinner, needless to say, is the clear favorite to win the Parisian tournament: “Everyone tries to beat me, but it’s normal. You have to be ready, here you play the best of 5 sets and it’s a little different. I’m sure I have tough matches ahead of me.”
