Maldives, images of the cave where the Italian divers died

A complex mission “in the narrowest internal sections of the cave, where visibility can quickly disappear due to the raised coral sediments and navigation becomes more complex”: this is the one illustrated by the Dan Europe organization which posted the first photos of the three Finnish sub-speleologists during the operation that led to the recovery of bodies of four Italian divers in the Maldives. The body of a fifth Italian, Gianluca Benedetti, it had been recovered the days before. The photos were taken by the diver Sami Paakkarinen.

In Genoa, Professor Vanin was heard as a witness

The forensic entomologist and professor of Distav-Unige Stefano Vanin, which was on the Duke of York (from which the teachers dived) Monica Montefalcone with her daughter Giorgia, the Unige researcher Muriel Oddenino and the new graduate Federico Gualtieri, with the boatmaster Gianluca Benedetti, he was heard in Genoa as a witness in the investigation into the death of the five divers. According to what we learn, Vanin handed over the materials in his possession to the investigators, including the victims’ devices.

Everything is immediately transmitted to the Rome Prosecutor’s Office, where the file is opened. Further insights should involve two other Distav teachers – not present in the Maldives – but able to explain the functioning of the so-called ‘scientific cruises’ starting from the authorizations.
