Mika Salo comments on his stabbing – the rough pictures are published

Salo said on Friday by phone from Bangkok that his health is “very good” at the moment.

“It looked pretty bad. A really big open wound. The muscle was torn. The doctors had to sew a little of the muscle and then the skin on top of it. There are 28 stitches in total.”

Salo, who is on holiday in Thailand, got a wound three days ago. The first days are said to be critical in terms of inflammation.

“It has improved very well. I have been going to the hospital every day to clean it. The air quality here is not the best. It is so humid that there is a big risk of infection. The hospital is very close there. They have put a new bandage on it every day.”

Proceedings started when Salo was at a traffic light near his hotel. He started walking across the crosswalk.

“There are an incredible number of those mopeds here, they pass by. One came very close and I felt that I got hit a bit. But it wasn’t like it even hurt. I continued walking normally and then 5-10 meters away a man behind me said that hey, you’re bleeding a lot from your leg. I looked down and saw that the shoe was completely covered in blood.”

A taxi driver was nearby, from whom Salo asked for a piece of paper and tried to clean the wound. That’s when he noticed that it wasn’t just a small scratch.

“I saw that, my God, that wound is big. It won’t heal with just a plaster.”

The taxi took Salo to a nearby hospital, where the wound was stitched up right away. The wound was deep but clean. The doctor estimates that the calf has been cut with a knife.

“He looked at it and said it was really sharp. He suspected a knife. Of course it’s not certain, but the wound was so clean and straight.”

“Then when I went to clean it at the hospital the next day, they told me that there had been as many similar cuts that same evening and night.”

So there was apparently a stabber on the rampage there on Tuesday night?

“Probably around the corner, yes. It was right near my hotel.”

Salo has a lot of friends living in Thailand, and he and his wife often travel there. Nothing like this has ever happened before.

Stitches Salo has to stay for a couple of weeks. He has not suffered from pain and is able to walk, but we must avoid getting the wound wet.

“It’s unfortunate that you can’t swim or really do anything.”

It is currently the rainy season in Thailand. It rains from time to time and the temperature is around 35–36 degrees. Circumstances have somewhat restricted Salo’s movement.

“A lot of time will be spent in the hotel room. In an air-conditioned space, the wound stays dry.”

On Thursday, however, Salo walked to a nearby sports bar with his friends to watch the Lions’ game.

“The doctor said not to walk long distances now, but yes, I can easily walk a kilometer or two like that. I have no pain whatsoever and I haven’t taken any painkillers. The antibiotic course is just on.”

When the critical first days are over and the healing is advanced, then Salo can get a waterproof bandage on his leg. Then he would be able to swim.

“I have to praise the doctors and hospitals here. They are incredibly nice and everything goes without any kind of waiting. No complaints.”

Moped riders in Salo have not started to get scared when moving around the city.

“In a big city, there are always idiots in the mix. Fortunately, this happened on the leg, and not anywhere else. They only tried to cause damage, if this is intentional. If they wanted to do more damage, then of course they would have tried to something in the upper body. Then maybe I wouldn’t say much here.”
