Ubisoft in record minus: Announces radical changes, but also some new/old hits!

Fiscal year 2025-2026. will remain remembered as one of the most difficult for the company. Net reservations, the key indicator of sales, fell by 17.4 percent to slightly more than 1.5 billion euros, while the operating loss reached 1.3 billion euros. The results are the result of commercial success like Skull & Bones and Star Wars Outlaws. The market reacted brutally: after the announcement of the restructuring plan, the company’s shares sank 34 percent in one day, the biggest one-day drop in the company’s history. The value of the shares fell by 93 percent compared to the peak of 2018, reducing the market capitalization from 12 billion to less than 1 billion euros.

“Creative houses” as salvation

In response to the crisis, CEO Yves Guillemot announced a “radically new” value creation model. Srž transformation is the division of the company into five autonomous units called “creative houses”. Each will be responsible for their own portfolio, from development to sales, and have full financial responsibility. The first named unit is Vantage Studios, in which China’s Tencent invested 1.16 billion euros for a 26 percent stake. This studio will manage its biggest franchises: Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six. Other development studies will be grouped into a “creative network” that will provide support. This reorganization comes at a high price: seven titles have been canceled, including the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, while seven others have been postponed. The studios in Halifax and Stockholm were closed, and the restructuring also affected the offices in Helsinki and Malmö. The goal is to reduce costs by an additional 200 million euros, with moreć 300 million in savings achieved.

Painful cuts and a return to the office
