Sudden turnaround after the heat: Storms in Slovenia, weather alarms lit for Croatia as well

Croatia is under high temperatures today, but the State Hydrometeorological Institute announces a sudden reversal and dangerous weather events here as well. According to the official data of DHMZ, the temperature in the thermometer at 1 pm reached 30 degrees Celsius at the measuring stations in Zagreb and Grič and Maksimir, and the same temperature was measured in Krapina, Varaždin, Sisak, Karlovac, Pazin and Senj. It is even hotter in Ploča, where 31 degrees were measured, while Knin leads the list of the hottest cities with 32 degrees Celsius.

Thunderstorms and storms are coming

Due to the arrival of weather changes, meteorologists have issued numerous warnings to the public. The last meteoalarm is currently in effect for Osijek, Zagreb and the Karlovy Vary region. Citizens in these areas can expect locally pronounced showers accompanied by thunder, strong winds, and even hail.

DHMZ calls for increased caution due to possible strong thunderstorms, and makes a special appeal to people who stay in open areas, in forests, mountains and meadows, where interruptions to usual activities are possible. At the same time, this warning also applies to the area of ​​Kvarner and the Velebit Channel, but due to a strong storm.

Slovenia raised the alarm to the orange level

A much more dramatic scenario is taking place in the neighborhood, where the Slovenian Meteorological Institute ARSO raised the alert level from Tuesday to orange. According to their analyses, in the upper layers of the atmosphere towards the Alps, moreć colder air flows from the northwest. This light collides with an extremely overheated air mass south of the Alps, which creates conditions for great atmospheric instability.

The first storm clouds formed over Karavanki during the morning, but ARSO announces the bulk of the storm wave throughout Slovenia in the afternoon. The storm will first develop in the north of the country, after which it will move to the south, where the atmosphere should calm down in the evening hours.

A temperature drop of up to 15 degrees

And while in the southern parts of Slovenia before the storm itself, temperatures above 30 degrees are recorded, the arrival of the storm brings a drastic and sudden drop in temperature by 10 to 15 degrees Celsius. While western Slovenia fears a higher probability of hail, in the central and eastern parts of the country the biggest problems could be caused by stormy wind gusts. As these systems move very quickly, the showers will be short-lived, so Slovenian meteorologists do not expect floods, although they warn of the possible overflow of rainwater in urban areas.
