Jokić on tourism in Croatia: ‘The sea is becoming unreachable even for Norwegians, let alone us’

ARE YOU GOING TO GO ON VACATION THIS YEAR?

In yesterday’s research, we saw how inflation, high prices, low salaries and pensions are among the main problems of citizens. The second part of the research brings out whether, with all this, citizens can afford a summer vacation.

When asked if they plan to go on vacation this year, 35 percent of respondents answered yes, 54 percent do not plan to go on vacation, while 11 percent do not know yet.

– In Croatia, there is a significant number of people who are not financially able to go to the sea. In addition, summer is not only spent at the sea, some also go to the mountains. Also, we need to learn what Croatia is. In Croatia, we are getting older, some of the pensioners are not able to go to the sea. Given that part of the population also lives at sea, such numbers should not be surprising – analyzed Joki. and added:

– The most beautiful sea of ​​all seas is becoming more and more scarce and inaccessible. The prices of accommodation and meals are such that someone from Norway cannot afford it, let alone someone coming from Garesnica, Zabok or Gospi. All this indicates that we should think about what kind of tourism we cultivate and what we do for our citizens so that they can enjoy what is part of Croatia.

WHERE ARE YOU PLANNING TO VACATION?

Of these 35 percent who answered that they are going on vacation, 82 percent plan to vacation in Croatia, 16 percent abroad, and 2 percent don’t know yet.

TYPE OF ACCOMMODATION

It is clearer why citizens choose Croatia and where they will stay based on the data. 30 percent of them plan to spend their summer holidays in paid private accommodation. 25 percent vacation with family or friends and do not pay for accommodation. 20 percent choose a hotel, while 18 percent have their own property. Only 2 percent stay

in the camp, and 1 percent in the hostel. Some other accommodation was answered by 3 percent, while 1 percent still does not know.

– A significant part of people decide to stay with relatives, or go to zimmer frei, a small part goes to hotels. This type of accommodation becomes a luxury, and it shouldn’t be like that. We should be a society that is oriented towards us as consumers, so that prices are affordable so that people can enjoy that sea, that coast – said Joki.

– The question arises as to what kind of tourism we cultivate. Tourism should be such that it harms the environment as little as possible and serves the people of Croatia as much as possible. Instead, tourism is becoming an increasing burden for nature, but also for the local population, on the other hand, it is less and less directed towards the local population – added Joki.

WHY DON’T YOU GO ON VACATION THIS YEAR?

As the main reason, those who do not plan to go on a summer vacation cite financial reasons, i.e. they cannot afford a summer vacation. This was answered by more than half of the respondents, 51 percent of them. 20 percent live by the sea or close enough to the sea anyway. 8 percent of them answered that they do not like summer vacations, and 6 percent cited family obligations as the reason why they are not going on vacation this year. 5 percent cannot go due to health reasons, and 4 percent due to commitments at work or college. Some other reason is given by 5 percent of respondents, and 1 percent does not know.

– I think that this fact should be raised. When politics tells us that we are getting richer, wealthier, and a significant part of the population can no longer afford some things that they might have been able to do when they were, under quotation marks, poorer. Compared to the period 20 years ago, fewer and fewer people decide to go on vacation in the high season on our coast – said Joki.

– You should always keep in mind the growth of income, which certainly exists, but also the disproportion of price growth for certain services. One of those is vacation – he concludes.

DO YOU FEEL SAFE IN CROATIA?

The research also shows whether the respondents feel safe in Croatia. 7 percent of respondents said that they felt unsafe, while almost 91 percent of them felt safe. 2 percent don’t know.

– That is the greatest value of Croatia. Everything should be done to maintain safety as our value and feature of our lives. All of us who have the opportunity to communicate with colleagues from countries with higher GDP and travel know that the feeling of security is something that makes a country especially valuable. When the scenes that have happened recently, we need to strongly condemn the violence in order to affect the safety of all those who live here and those who come here. We have a beautiful country, good sports, we have art, which we talk about a little, and science, but our greatest value is the security that comes from the feeling of community, from the feeling of communication between people, and we should build that, and not get poisoned by any conflicts on social networks and around and do everything so that the feeling of security remains our greatest and main value. of Croatia – concluded Joki.
