With war in Iran, inflation in the US is the highest in three years

According to information from the American press, the accumulated price variation in 12 months was 3.8%, the highest since May 2023, when Democrat Joe Biden was still president.

The rise in prices is a reflection of the war in Iran, where the Islamic regime has almost completely blocked the strategic Strait of Hormuz since the start of the conflict on February 28. Before the war, around 20% of the world’s oil passed through the passage.

The rise in commodity prices resulting from the conflict has effects on other economic sectors: excluding food and fuel, interannual inflation in the USA was lower than the general index, but was still high by American standards, standing at 3.3%.

However, the report brought a positive indicator for President Donald Trump five months before the midterm congressional elections: the personal consumption expenditure price index rose 0.4% in April compared to the previous month, a slowdown compared to the 0.7% recorded in March.
