In addition, its capture opens the way for an advance by the Israeli army towards the Nabatiyeh region, further north.
The Israeli army also ordered the evacuation of nine villages in the southern regions of Sidon and Jezzine on Monday.
Meanwhile, the head of US diplomacy, Marco Rubio, spoke with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about peace negotiations between the two countries, a US official said Sunday night.
“To advance this dialogue, the United States proposed a clear plan: Hezbollah must end all its attacks against Israel. In turn, Israel will refrain from any escalation in Beirut,” said this official on condition of anonymity.
A new round of talks between Lebanon and Israel, which do not maintain diplomatic relations, are scheduled for this Tuesday and Wednesday in Washington.
Since the start of the war on March 2, more than 3,412 people have been killed in Lebanon and more than a million have been displaced, according to Beirut.
