Spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry: Israel is a dependent player, Lebanon is discussed not with it, but with the United States

Spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Esmail Baghai commented on the progress of negotiations with the Americans against the background of the escalation of the conflict in Southern Lebanon and the exchange of blows between Iran and the United States.

“We insist that a ceasefire in Lebanon is a necessary condition of any agreement to end the war,” he said, noting that the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon has been endlessly violated.

“We understood from the very beginning that we were negotiating in an atmosphere of mistrust, and we began them with deep fears. The other side is constantly changing its positions, which is delaying the negotiations,” the official said.

Baghai emphasized: from the Iranian point of view, Israel is not an independent participant in the negotiations, and in negotiations involving Lebanon, the Iranian counterparty is the United States: “They are a key player, the address of our efforts to end the war.”
