“Due to its opposition to Israel”: the Israir flight did not receive permission to land in Slovenia

The Israir flight that was supposed to land today (Wednesday) in the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, had to change its route and land in Zagreb, Croatia, after the Slovenian authorities did not approve its landing.

The authorities in Ljubljana recently refuse to allow Israeli carriers to land in the country, due to their opposition to the government’s policy in Israel. This is a violation of the applicable aviation agreements between the countries of the European Union.

In Israel, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Civil Aviation Authority are involved in the matter, but so far the attempts to allow the flight to take place as planned have not been successful. Minister of Transportation Miri Regev Takfe: This is a wrong political decision that directly harms the citizens of Israel – those who try to boycott us through the airport should understand that there will be consequences. Regev added and said that “Israel will not stand by and will act with all the tools at its disposal.”

Slovenia is in the midst of a political upheaval. The government in Ljubljana, which recognized a Palestinian state on June 4, 2024 and took a critical line towards Israel, is giving way to a right-wing government led by Janz Janša, who is considered a supporter of Israel.
