Volksbühne Berlin opens outdoor swimming pool: Creative wetlands

When Matthias Lilienthal announces that he wants to “embrace the city lovingly,” you can be prepared for something. At his new place of work, the Berliner Volksbühne, Lilienthal will open the “Volksbad am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz” in front of the theater for two months at the beginning of the next season – the director as lifeguard. In the 25-meter pool of the outdoor pool there are days for the neighborhood or for pensioners, swimming lessons for children and, presumably for non-swimmers, unfortunately also the inevitable “discourse program”. In this case, the fact that Lilienthal’s ambitions are mixed between charm, chutzpah and megalomania is part of the program and fully intentional. At least this time you can’t blame him for the fact that his theater would be a dry affair because of all the discourse imposture.
