David Beckham will have a star on the Walk of Fame before the USA World Cup

The football superstar David Beckham will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, ahead of the World Cup to be held in the United States.

The legend of cinema Tom Cruise and the player’s wife, Victoria Beckhamformer pop star and now stylist, will be present at the ceremony on June 12th to unveil the plaque that will immortalize the British midfielder on Hollywood’s most famous street.

The ceremony for the former England captain, 51, will take place just hours before the first match on US soil of this year’s World Cup, hosted jointly by Mexico, Canada and the United States.

“The recognition of David Beckham with a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame in the Sports and Entertainment category comes at an opportune time as the United States prepares to host the FIFA World Cup,” said Ana Martinez of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

“Beckham’s role in elevating the popularity of soccer in America and his lasting influence on sports, entertainment and global culture make this honor especially meaningful,” he added. During his career as a footballer, Beckham played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, LA Galaxy and Paris Saint-Germain, where he hung up his boots in 2013.

More recently, he became part-owner of the American team Inter Miami CFwhich signed the Argentine superstar Lionel Messi and won the Major League Soccer Cup last year.

Beckham, who was knighted by Britain’s King Charles III last year, has also ventured into entertainment, co-founding content production company Studio 99 in 2019.
