Amazon will invest more than 10 billion euros in the development of logistics centers in Europe

Amazon has announced new investments in Europe: the company will invest more than 10 billion euros in expanding and modernizing its network of fulfillment centers, and will also create another 25 thousand jobs in the region.

According to Amazon’s website, investments will be aimed, among other things, at introducing new robotic systems and speeding up delivery. The company presented an updated version of the autonomous warehouse robot Proteus, which will be able to work not only in loading zones, but throughout the entire territory of logistics facilities.

The new version of Proteus uses AI and is capable of receiving text commands from employees in ordinary spoken language: the robot independently determines the task priority, route and completion time. Amazon plans to begin deploying such robots in Europe in the first half of 2027.

In addition, Amazon intends to implement the STARK system in European centers, which picks up containers of goods from the conveyor and places them on carts. This system has already been tested in Barcelona and should appear at 15 sites in Europe by 2027. The company will also expand its use of Vulcan, a sensor-equipped robot that can handle goods in hard-to-reach areas.

Amazon says the new technology should reduce physical strain on employees and speed up order processing. The company emphasizes that the robots are designed to perform repetitive and heavy tasks, while workers will be able to move on to more skilled tasks.

Reuters notes that Amazon’s new investments in European logistics come amid a broader rise in the company’s spending on artificial intelligence and infrastructure. In 2025, Amazon invested more than 60 billion euros in Europe; The company’s staff in the region is about 230 thousand people, excluding contractors and seasonal workers.
