US President Donald Trump revealed tonight (between Thursday and Friday) that a military operation to remove the highly enriched uranium from Iran – may take a long time. “Getting there is not like Venezuela. You have to be there for two weeks. You need a lot of equipment,” he told reporters at the White House. “There was a time at the beginning that we thought about doing it.”

President Trump said that the uranium itself is buried in Iran, in a place that is under surveillance. “It is photographed from every angle.” However, he emphasized: “We can take it out now, if someone comes close to it – we will know what to do.”

At the same time, Trump was asked about the possibility of reaching an agreement with Iran. “Agreement or war – we will win,” said the American president. He also said that harming American soldiers by Iran would lead to renewed fire: “If they kill soldiers, it will be justified to return to war.”

Trump was also asked about the situation in Lebanon, and the fact that despite the ceasefire – Hezbollah continues to shoot at Israel. He noted that the Middle East is a “different world”. “It would be nice if Lebanon would have peace,” he said, “the shooting is related to Iran.”

Trump was also asked if he would like to meet with the new Iranian leader, Mujtaba Khamenei. The president replied that he did not want to meet with him, but if it happened then it “would be an honor for him”.

The negotiations between the United States and Iran continue, and one of the main remaining points of contention concerns the “financial compensation” that Iran demands as part of the signing of the agreement. Tehran conveyed to the mediators the message that it demands to receive financial compensation immediately upon the signing of the initial agreement, while in the United States they prefer to tie the financial compensation to compliance with the terms of the agreement, are afraid of losing valuable leverage and refuse to transfer money directly to Iran, according to a CNN report.

Tehran is demanding 12 billion dollars as part of the current negotiations, when as part of the economic measures against Iran, Iranian assets and funds abroad with an estimated value of about 100 billion dollars were frozen – money that may be critical to the Iranian economy.

According to the report, officials in the Trump administration fear that releasing funds already at such an early stage could reduce the economic pressure on Iran, thereby eliminating one of the main levers of pressure that Washington has on Tehran. In the United States, these funds are seen as an important pressure lever for the second phase of the talks, which is intended to focus on the Iranian nuclear program.

“We have control over money that they claim is theirs,” Trump said at a cabinet meeting last week. “We will continue to control this money. When they behave properly and when they do the right thing, we will allow them to get their money. But right now we are not doing that.”
