The Prado Museum extends its nighttime hours this Saturday until 12:30 a.m. for ‘The Prado at night’

National Prado Museum proposes, this Saturday, June 6, a new edition of ‘The Prado at night’ with extended hours, from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., limited capacity and free entry. On this occasion, you can visit both floors of the Villanueva building, where interesting temporary exhibition proposals are added to the permanent collection.

On the ground floor, room 49 houses the guest work program, ‘The Visitation of Pontormo’, proceeding from the parish church of San Michele Arcangelo de Carmignano (Prato), Diocesis of Pistoia.

This masterpiece of early Italian Mannerism, painted around 1528-1530, can only be seen in the museum until June 18, and is part of the itinerary ‘Beauty and something more’which make up 14 works selected on the occasion of the visit of Leo XIV to Madridand available on the Museum’s website and accessible via QR code when visiting the museum.

Room 60 of the Prado Museum functions as a living space for 19th century collections and, in 2026, will adopt the name ‘Open warehouse’frame in which it is inserted ‘The universe of the artist before the camera’.

The exhibition articulates a journey that places photography at the center of the artist’s experience and his creative environment. The arrival of photography offered the possibility of capturing scenes with great precision and realism.. The artists posed before the camera, alone or in groups; They recorded their workshops and documented both the process and the completion of their works.

In room 66, the exhibition ‘The picture of hunger’ analyzes the rise and fall of a national glory, The Year of Hunger in Madrid, by José Aparicio; which went from being the most powerful visual metaphor of 19th century Spain to becoming a mere local anecdote.

Through this exhibition exercise, the Prado invites us to reflect on the ups and downs of art and criticism, propaganda, the invention of taste and the role of museums. On the main floor, room 37-38, the exhibition installation of The Marchioness of Santa Cruz de Goya, which is exhibited for the first time together with one of the copies recently found in the art trade; and in room 15 the recently restored Paul of Valladolid, one of Diego Velázquez’s most admired works and “the most amazing painting ever painted”, as Manet defined, within the framework of the conservation program for his paintings promoted by the Iberdrola Spain Foundation as a ‘protective member’ of its Restoration Program.

The night visit also offers the possibility of discovering some of the interactive experiences that Samsung has developed in collaboration with the institution, posing in the photocall designed for the occasion and accessing the premium content of La Guía del Prado for free during the visit to ‘El Prado at night’.
