“Jews are not allowed to enter”: a hotel in Bavaria refused to book a room for Israelis

The Ministry of Justice of the federal state of Bavaria has launched an investigation into an anti-Semitic incident that occurred when an Israeli tourist tried to book the Hotel zum Hirschen in the city of Lam. The request was answered: “Sorry, but we do not allow Jews into the hotel.”

“Back to the thirties? Is this how the hotel responded to Israeli guests?” – wrote Israeli Consul General in Munich Talia Lador. She also thanked the Booking company, which, after the victims’ appeal, removed the hotel from its website.

“The inhumane statement ‘Jews are not allowed’ cannot be justified under any circumstances, regardless of attempts to put them into the general context. I expect that this incident will be examined from a legal point of view,” said the chairman of the Council of Jewish Communities of Germany, Josef Schuster.

The hotel administration apologized, but he considered them insufficient. “I took note of it, but the statement was absolutely unacceptable. The fact that anyone would not only think such a thing, but write and send such a thing is simply outrageous,” Judische Allgemeine quotes him as saying.
