Acer arrives at Computex, the Taiwanese fair where the future of PCs is shown, unveiling a line-up led by the new Swift Air 14, a device openly designed to compete in the same range as the MacBook Neo. With a starting price set at 799 euros, the laptop adopts an all-aluminium chassis available in four colors (green, pink, purple and grey-blue) and relies on low-end Intel Core Series 3 processors, known by the code name “Wildcat Lake”, in the six-core Core 5 and Core 7 variants.
The technical comparison with the Apple counterpart highlights very specific strategic choices. The weight of the Swift Air 14 stands at 1.25 kilograms, equaling the MacBook Neo, compared to which it is however slightly thicker with its 12.9 millimeters compared to the rival’s 12.7. The 14-inch screen has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and a brightness of 350 nits, lower specifications than the Apple panel, however compensated by a 120Hz refresh rate and full coverage of the sRGB color space. On the connectivity front, Acer stands out thanks to the presence of two Thunderbolt 4 ports and a USB-A 3.2 port.
The real unknown remains linked to the performance and efficiency of the Wildcat Lake chip. The first benchmarks indicate good computing capacity, capable of rivaling Apple’s A18 Pro, but the actual behavior of the system will depend on energy management. To maximize battery life, Acer has integrated a generous 70Wh battery, almost double compared to the 36.5Wh of the MacBook Neo. However, some doubts remain about the basic configuration of 8GB of RAM, expandable up to 16GB, which on the Windows 11 operating system risks showing more evident performance limits compared to the optimization guaranteed by macOS. The Swift Air 14 will arrive in July.
Alongside the ultra-thin model, the manufacturer has refreshed the rest of the catalog with different diagonal solutions. The Aspire 18 AI presents itself as an impressive 18-inch notebook intended mainly for home use; despite the weight contained in 2.19 kilograms, the screen resolution stops at 1920 x 1200 pixels, a reduced value for a panel of this size, although mitigated by a 165Hz refresh rate. The data sheet includes Intel Core Ultra Series 3 “Panther Lake” processors, up to 32GB of RAM and the possibility of installing a second M.2 SSD.
For the gaming sector, the Nitro 16 makes its debut, characterized by the adoption of the 16-core AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX3D processor with second generation 3D V-cache technology. To keep list costs down, the maximum graphics card configuration has been limited to an Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti. The selling prices of Aspire 18 AI and Nitro 16 have not yet been communicated, but the launch windows follow those of the Swift Air. The overview of new features is completed with the Aspire
