Shortly before the World Cup: ÖFB team player announces change

ÖFB team player Patrick Wimmer moved from VfL Wolfsburg to TSG Hoffenheim shortly before the World Cup. The Austrian club in the German Bundesliga announced this on Wednesday. The 25-year-old midfielder left the Bundesliga relegated team after four years and signed a five-year contract with the Europa League participant from Sinsheim until the summer of 2031. According to media reports, the transfer fee for the World Cup participant should be around ten million euros.

At Hoffenheim, fifth in the table last season, Wimmer will meet several compatriots, including coach Christian Ilzer, ÖFB colleague Alexander Prass, sports director Andreas Schicker and sports director Paul Pajduch. Under Ilzer he once made the leap to the professionals at Vienna Austria. “I’m very pleased to be able to work under him again in Hoffenheim. I would also like to particularly thank Andreas Schicker and Paul Pajduch for the trusting discussions that completely convinced me,” said Wimmer.

Pajduch was also pleased about the commitment of the 30-time ÖFB international. “Patrick’s profile allows him to be used in a variety of ways offensively and has already proven his qualities in the Bundesliga,” the TSG sports director was quoted as saying in a press release. In the German upper house, Wimmer had 16 goals and 23 assists in 125 games. The Wolfsburg team were recently relegated without the ailing Wimmer after losing relegation against Paderborn after almost 30 years in the German Bundesliga.
