It’s official! Athletico announces one of the most expensive reinforcements in history

Hired from Águilas Doradas, from Colombia, Rivaldo arrives at Furacão in a negotiation that places his name among the biggest acquisitions in the club’s history. According to information released by the journalist César Luis Merlo, Athletico will pay 3.8 million dollars (around R$19 million) for the signing.

The value exceeds, for example, the purchase of Paraguayan defender Matteo Gamarra, signed at the end of 2023 for approximately R$17 million. With this, Rivaldo enters the group of the five most expensive signings ever made by the club.

Currently, the top of the ranking belongs to striker Kevin Viveros, acquired for around R$28.9 million in 2025. Next comes Vitor Roque, signed for approximately R$24 million from Cruzeiro, and Bruno Zapelli, who cost around R$19.3 million after leaving Belgrano, from Argentina.

Rivaldo will wear the number 19 shirt and will be the seventh Colombian in the Red and Black squad, which already includes defenders Aguirre and Terán, midfielders Juan Portilla and Alexandro García, as well as forwards Kevin Viveros and Steven Mendoza.

In addition to him, for this second semester, the club also signed defender Bruno Baldini, who was at Avaí. The 19-year-old player signed a contract until 2030 and will initially be used in the under-20 team.

The numbers make Jorge Rivaldo the third highest scorer in the current edition of the Colombian Championship. He is behind two veterans: Andrey Estupinan, who has already scored 13 goals for Deportivo Pasto, and Hugo Rodallega, who has 12 goals for Santa Fe.

At 1.89 meters tall, Rivaldo will be an option and should shadow compatriot Kevin Viveros, Brasileirão’s top scorer with 11 goals.

Also with privileged physical strength, the difference is that Rivaldo can contribute more with aerial balls. Furthermore, if coach Odair Hellmann can even use the two center forwards together, depending on the context of the confrontation.
