Alexander Zverev wins Roland Garros beating Flavio after five sets (6-1; 4-6; 6-4; 6-7; 6-1) Cobolli. The German prevailed after four hours and 19 minutes of play. For the 29-year-old, the victory in Paris represents the conquest of the first Slam title in his career.

Zverev beats Cobolli and wins the first Slam of his career

The 29 year old from Hamburg redeems defeats in the finals of the 2020 US Open (against Thiem), the 2024 Roland Garros (at the hands of Alcaraz) and the 2025 Australian Open (with Sinner). Zverev becomes the fifth German to win a Slam, after Boris Becker, Gottfried von Cramm, Henner Henkel and Michael Stich. At the age of 29 years, 1 month and 18 days, Zverev is also the fifth oldest tennis player ever to win his first Major tournament: the record holder is Andres Gimeno, who won Roland Garros at 34 years, 9 months and 19 days.

With the success in Paris, Zverev rises to 7305 points in the ATP rankings, consolidating third position in the world rankings and closing in on Carlos Alcaraz’s second place (9960). Flavio Cobolli, for his part, consoles himself with entering the Top 10 for the first time in his career.

Cobolli: “Zverev deserves the title, it’s not over for me”

“It’s not easy to talk about right now, but if someone had asked me who deserved the title more, I would have said Zverev’s name. It was an honor to share the court with him, I’m happy for him, but also a little sad because I came close. I never expected such a result, I know that I’m still young and that it’s not over”, commented Cobolli during the awards ceremony. “I thank the French Federation and the management of the tournament, it is the best Slam for me and it was the best two weeks of my life. Thanks also to the blue wall who tried to help me throughout the match”, added the Roman tennis player, a little influenced by the presence of Adriano Panatta, present in the stands and protagonist in the award ceremony for the two players: “I felt a little under pressure and it wasn’t easy playing in front of you, congratulations on the career you’ve had”.
