Head of Airport Authority: Every fourth summer flight will be canceled

The director general of the Israel Airports Authority, Sharon Kedmi, said in an interview with the ynet portal that if a solution to the problem with the lack of parking spaces at Ben Gurion Airport is not found in the coming days, airlines will have to start canceling flights planned for the summer and autumn holidays.

Dozens of U.S. transport aircraft occupying parking spaces at Ben Gurion and Ramon airports could lead to a situation where “one in four passengers will receive a cancellation notice,” Kedmi said.

According to Kedmi, before June 16, airlines must be notified of the need to prepare for the cancellation of some flights planned for the summer and the holidays of the month of Tishrei. Kedmi estimated that in the absence of a solution, about 2.4 million air tickets would be cancelled.
