La Jornada: Mikel Arriola denies that the owner of Tv Azteca has any representation in the FMF

The president of the Mexican Football Federation (FMF), Mikel Arriola, yesterday denied having granted any “representation” to Ricardo Salinas Pliego, president of Grupo Salinas – controller of Tv Azteca –, as the businessman claimed on his networks.

“Today (Wednesday) I met at home with Mikel Arriola and my son Benjamín. We talked about the importance of private initiative in the @fifaworldcup_es and he invited me to attend the opening match tomorrow on behalf of hard-working and good Mexicans,” the businessman published on his X account.

The businessman was accompanied by his son Benjamín Salinas and Mikel Arreola. In the image, he shows a shirt from the national soccer team with the name “R. Salinas” and the number 26, in reference to the year of the World Cup, which began yesterday. “I’m just going to ask for a change of number to 30,” added Salinas Pliego in his publication, in an allusion to the 2030 electoral process, when the Presidency in Mexico will be renewed.

Yesterday, before the opening of the World Cup, Arriola also published in X a denial of the businessman’s claim that he had been granted any representation. “Yesterday I visited Mr. Ricardo Salinas because it is my institutional function. In this regard, I clarify that the representation he has in the FMF is derived from the broadcasts of soccer matches. The FMF does not intervene in the political life of the country,” said Arriola.

Yesterday, boos of Salinas Pliego were spread on social networks by some fans who attended the opening match of the World Cup, when the businessman was heading to the entrance of the Azteca stadium.
