Michael Douglas returns to action to star in an Oliver Stone film

After more than six decades of career, Michael Douglas makes an unexpected return in front of the camera. At 81, the American actor joins Oliver Stone’s next film titled White Liesrevealed Variety .

Absent from the sets since 2022, the American actor is coming out of his reserve for a project that he considers worthy. This feature film also marks his reunion with Oliver Stone, more than fifteen years later Wall Street: Money never sleeps (2010), sequel to the cult film Wall Street of 1987 which earned him the Oscar for best actor.

Recently, Michael Douglas explained that he will be attentive to the proposals if they are worth the detour: “I don’t consider myself officially retired, because if an exceptional project presents itself, I could come back. But otherwise, I’m very happy just watching my wife work.”

A film focused on family ties and mourning

Always according to Varietythe feature film White Lies will also bring together Willem Dafoe, Ellen Barkin and Homer Gere. Filming, now complete, took place between Europe and Asia : “This team was a real treat from start to finish. And the Italian team was the warmest I have ever worked with. I am deeply grateful for this opportunity”said Oliver Stone in a press release. The director signs his first feature film since Snowden in 2016.

Oliver Stone, who is also the screenwriter, describes the film as “a personal story about people and their relationships”. The feature film is presented as “a departure from his previous works, offering an intimate and poignant drama that explores family, mourning, pain and reveals how love can transform over the course of our lives”. No information has yet been communicated, but White Lies is expected to hit theaters in 2028.
