The Madrid Book Fair plans to close this Sunday from 3:00 p.m. due to a storm warning

The Madrid Book Fair has reported that it will temporarily close the venue starting at 3:00 p.m. this Sunday if the storm forecasts communicated by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) are maintained, in accordance with the criteria established in the Madrid City Council protocol for the El Retiro park.

As explained by the organization in a statement, the measure responds to preventive security reasons in the face of the alerts planned for the afternoon. Specifically, the latest available update includes orange alert between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., red alert between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. and orange alert again from 9:00 p.m. to midnight.

The Book Fair will carry out a new review of the meteorological situation around 2:00 p.m. and will communicate any modification to the planned measures based on the updated information.

The organization contemplates different scenarios for the day. Thus, if the weather alerts are canceled, the activity can take place normally. On the other hand, if only the orange alert is maintained, the Fair will remain closed during the affected period. On the other hand, if the red alert is confirmed, the authorities will proceed with the preventive evacuation of the El Retiro park starting at 4:00 p.m.

Likewise, the Book Fair has indicated that, if the red alert is activated, the reopening of the park during Monday will be conditional on the technical review of the trees by municipal services.

Finally, they regret the inconvenience that this situation may cause to exhibitors, participants, professionals and visitors, while thanking them for their understanding and ensuring that they will continue to inform promptly as new official information becomes available.
