“There’s no time for that now”: the naval parade in St. Petersburg will not take place in 2026

The St. Petersburg publication Fontanka cites sources in the Russian Ministry of Defense and the Main Naval Headquarters who said that the traditional parade on Navy Day will not be held in 2026.

According to the publication, preparations for the parade, which has been held in St. Petersburg since 2017 on the last Sunday of July, have not even begun. As of June 15, the presidential decree on holding the Main Navy Parade has not been issued, although preparations are usually in full swing at this time.

“You understand, there’s no time for that now,” explained one of the sources. Let us recall that on May 9, events for Victory Day were canceled in many Russian cities, and in Moscow the parade took place after its holding was “allowed” by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.

The opening of the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg also became an embarrassment for the Russian authorities. The northern capital, the birthplace of the Russian president, came under Ukrainian missile fire, and the Neva, where the naval parade is usually held, found itself under a cloud of smoke.
