Kristian Sallinen is the future chief conductor of the Tampere Philharmonic

Tampere The future chief conductor of the Philharmonia has been appointed Kristian Sallinen. He will start his three-year term in August 2027, when the current conductor Matthew Hallsin the contract ends.

“I am deeply impressed and grateful for the trust that the Tampere Philharmonic has shown in me,” says Sallinen in the orchestra’s press release.

“It is a privilege to work with musicians of such a high standard, and I look forward to working together with the orchestra and its audience.”

Allowed25, has rapidly risen to international awareness with notable orchestral debuts and visits.

In the spring of 2026, he conducted the closing concert of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and made his operatic debut at the Finnish National Opera with Tchaikovsky Jolanta-at the opera.

British Matthew Halls will continue in his role until the summer of 2027. He started his season in the fall of 2023. He is the orchestra’s twelfth chief conductor and the third foreigner in the position.

“It has been a great pleasure to work with the musicians of the Tampere Philharmonic for the past two years. Among other things, we have developed a playing style that is particularly well suited to the music of Baroque, Classicism and Early Romanticism,” says Halls in the press release.
