Joan Cerveró, new director of the National Center for Musical Diffusion

The National Institute of Performing Arts and Music (INAEM) announced this Wednesday the appointment of Joan Cerveró as new director of the National Center for Musical Diffusion (CNDM). He will join the position on October 2.

The appointment was made after a selection process in which 33 candidates participated.as explained by the Ministry of Culture in a statement.

This INAEM advisory body selected the finalist candidates, with Joan Cerveró’s receiving the unanimous support of all its members.

Thus, the Artistic Council has highlighted the project presented by Cerveró “its plural vision of Spanish music, understood as a diverse heritage that encompasses tradition, contemporary creation and other genres specifically linked to culture” Spanish.

“His bet defends a necessary balance between historical and current musicintegrating them as parts of the same living legacy. From this starting point it vindicates the role of Spanish musical culture in the global context and its presence throughout the territory, but also as a business card in other countries,” says Cultura.

Cerveró’s project also has the objective of “maintaining and improving quality, sustainability and transparency in programming.”

“It will seek to attend to the most specialized repertoires without neglecting the majority genres and styles, and will conceive music as a space for union, training, knowledge and shared enjoyment“, ends Cultura.

The new director of the CNDM, who will take office on October 2, has held different responsibilities in institutions such as the Valencia Symphony Orchestra (OSV), where he was manager for almost 20 years, and the Ballet de los Teatros de la Generalitat (BTGV), of which he was musical director between 2004 and 2014.

During this stage he directed classical and contemporary ballets, and collaborated with companies such as the National Ballet of Spain and choreographers such as Jirí Kylián, Nacho Duato, Goyo Montero, Patrick de Bana, Thierry Malandain, Ohad Naharin and José Carlos Martínez. Cerveró was also linked to the first years of the Series 20/21 cycle of the National Center for Musical Diffusion, a program that he directed between 2011 and 2013.

He has directed 19 editions of the ENSEMS International Contemporary Music Festival, as well as the Moderna Music Festival -in collaboration with the Palau de la Música de Valencia- from 2012 to the present.
