Football World Cup: Brazil’s veteran star Neymar is also out against Haiti

The ailing veteran star Neymar will not be available for the Brazilian national soccer team in their second group game at the World Cup. Instead of traveling with the team to Philadelphia for the game against Haiti, the 34-year-old will continue to work on his comeback in the training camp in New Jersey, the association announced. The Seleção didn’t get beyond a 1-1 draw against Morocco at the start, but they are clearly favored against outsiders Haiti on Saturday (2.30 a.m./ARD and MagentaTV).

Neymar hasn’t played a competitive game in over a month due to a calf injury. This week he was at least able to train on the pitch again – at times with the ball, for a short time even with his teammates. The former world-class striker is in the “final phase of his recovery,” the Brazilians said. At the first World Cup game against Morocco, Neymar was at least excited on the sidelines.
