The EU provides emergency support of 34 million euros to Armenia

Today, the European Commission allocated 34 million euros to Armenia in order to mitigate the effects of Russia’s trade restrictions on the private sector, reports the EU delegation in Armenia.

“Just two weeks after the phone conversation between President von der Leyen and Prime Minister Pashinyan, the EU is already implementing the commitments it made in the direction of supporting Armenia and its people.

This financial support is the first part of the comprehensive support package announced by President von der Leyen, which includes trade facilitation and solidarity measures aimed at strengthening Armenia’s economic resilience,” the message said.

Based on the agreements reached within the framework of the EU-Armenia summit at the beginning of May, the EU and Armenia will continue close cooperation, deepening business ties and expanding access to markets for Armenian producers, the message states.

“Sectors affected by trade restrictions, including agri-food production, horticulture and other export-oriented sectors, will receive additional support through trade promotion initiatives, business linkage measures and targeted programs to increase market access.”

The EU-Armenia Special Group on Economic Resilience continues to hold regular meetings to guide and monitor the implementation of these measures, the EU delegation in Armenia reports.

European Commissioner for EU Enlargement Marta Kos stated.
– “The European Union firmly stands by Armenia as a sovereign, democratic and independent country. We provide not only financial support, but also help Armenia to trade more easily with its neighbors and Europe. This is a practical manifestation of European solidarity towards one of our closest partners.”

On July 5, Kos will visit Armenia in order to discuss further practical steps within the framework of cooperation and give them an incentive, reports the EU delegation in Armenia.
