Athletics: Elmo Lakka ends his career as a top athlete

Chairman of Helsinki Kisa-Veikok Janne Hirsto confirms to Sanom that Lakka will move from the role of a full-time athlete to the full-time role of executive director of HKV.

Finnish Sports Federation announced on Tuesday that Lakka has been appointed executive director of HKV. The work will start on September 1, when HKV’s current executive director Reijo Siitonen retires.

Lakka represents his current club Jyväskylä Field Athletes until the end of the competition season. After that, he will move to the capital region and start full-time in his new job.

“It’s a wonderful thing that I get to comprehensively develop Helsinki Kisa-Veikko together with the people of Kisaveikko and be involved in the next steps of the club,” says Lakka in the press release.

Lacquer in addition to his successful career, he graduated with a master’s degree in physical education from the University of Jyväskylä.

As a hurdler, he has won ten championships from the Kaleva Games and 11 gold medals from the SM halls. Laka holds the Finnish record for the 110-meter hurdles of 13.31 seconds.

The many-time representative of the prestigious competition has worked, for example, as a member of the Olympic Committee’s sports committee.

“Elmo’s background combines a strong knowledge of elite sports, a vision of the priorities for the development of a successful athletics club, and a genuine personal interest in running the club’s day-to-day operations,” says Hirsto.
