Drone attack on Moscow: Russia reports 28 kills

660 Ukrainian drones shot down over Russia

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Russian air defense shot down 660 Ukrainian drones on Friday night. Drones were destroyed over more than a dozen regions, the Russian Defense Ministry said. The Moscow region and the annexed Crimean peninsula were among those affected. The number is one of the highest since the conflict began.

The Ukrainian army has increasingly attacked Russia with long-range drones in recent months. Energy infrastructure such as refineries, oil depots and ports were particularly targeted. Kiev sees these facilities as legitimate targets to reduce Russia’s oil revenues to finance its offensive in Ukraine. Last week, a Ukrainian attack caused a major fire at a refinery in southeast Moscow.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has approved a 40-day offensive against Russian targets after consultations with the intelligence chief. The aim of the operation was to put pressure on the aggressor to force an end to the war, Zelenskyj posted on Telegram.
