Grid fees from 2027: Large battery storage systems should be excluded

The regulatory authority E-Control has presented its draft for the basic regulation on system usage charges. It is intended to regulate which electricity network fees should apply from January 1, 2027.

It is planned system-serving memory with a total output of up to 5 gigawatts exempt from network fees. This would cover almost half of Austria’s electricity consumption, even in times of high demand. The network fee exemption should only apply to large storage systems (at least 1 MW).

After SNAP comes WiNAP

The introduction of a performance price is relevant for households. Customers who use a lot of electricity at once then have to pay more.

After the introduction of the “Summer Low Work Rate” (SNAP) in April, the “Winter low working price(WiNAP). Anyone who uses electricity between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. from October to March receives a discount on network fees.

Comments collected by July 24th

The draft of the basic regulation on system usage fees published on Monday is not yet final. E-Control is collecting comments on its draft assessment until July 24th and the authority is holding a specialist conference on July 14th. After the basic regulation has been issued, E-Control will then issue a further regulation in the autumn Amount of fees fest.
